We just watched La Dolce Vita and now we want our life to look like it—you know, all moody black and whites and in Italian. What better way to go through existence than smoking too much and drinking cocktails with Nico on a bustling strip in Rome?
Post-war Rome, however, is nothing but a backdrop to the real star of the film, Maddalena (played by actress Anouk Amiee), an heiress who spends her nights being unimpressed by the city’s nightlife and driving prostitutes home for fun (and sleeping with a well-dressed Marcello Mastroianni while she’s at it).
Maddalena goes through the movie with such cool nonchalance that we couldn’t help but be inspired. Sure, Anita Ekberg is wonderful and all as the over-the-top bombshell frolicking in the Trevi Fountain, but her boobs were bobbing around so much during the dance scene they made us seasick.
No, much better to emulate the calm and chic Maddalena, who calls herself a whore (hello feminism!) while simultaneously wooing Mastroianni and making out with some blonde dude. Best of all though, she takes her heels off to drive—now that’s the mark of a real lady.
