The original child star (okay, okay after Elizabeth Taylor and Tatum O’Neal) Drew Barrymore, is starring in a new movie in which she plays a Greenpeace activist who saves whales. Admittedly, it looks pretty bad, but she looks pretty great, which made us think, has she ever looked bad? (The 2009 Golden Globes not withstanding). The answer is no.
When we were growing up in the 90s she was the girl to look up to, from her days as a moody, boozy, pre-teen, to her daisy-chain-wearing Letterman-flashing party girl self, she was pretty much always the coolest. Of course, if we were to see a 12-year-old smoking now, we’d be slightly horrified but when you’re a regular wimpy 9-year-old it’s the definition of badass.
For a solid few years she appeared on the cover of YM and Seventeen so often, it was as though she was contractually obliged, which only lead us to covet her style more. The hair! The tattoos! The wonky smile! Best big sister crush a girl could have.
