We may be in Montreal but that doesn’t mean we’re buried under piles of snow (at least not this week). In fact it’s so downright balmy at the moment that it feels almost like spring, which has us thinking about spring, which is the worst because it’ll only end in heartache and three feet of snow.
But once you’ve started thinking about the warmer months it’s hard to stop (especially when the stores are chocked-full of floral prints and neon). Instead of dreaming of showing some skin in shorts and skirts, however, we’ve turned our affection to a spring item that’s a bit more realistic: the trench coat.

Of course, this obsession might have a little to do with having recently watched Audrey Hepburn and Albert Finney drive around France (in a convertible MG TD, no less) looking incredibly chic in Two for the Road. Gah. Since we can’t afford the car, we’ve downgraded to the trench, which, let’s be honest, is much more environmentally friendly and goes with just about anything.
The whole thing has us dreaming—literally dreaming—of the outfits we’re going to throw on under a classic Burberry or Aquascutum, we’re not picky. (The differences basically come down to two things: 1) the kind of tartan on the lining and 2) the sleeves; inset vs. raglan). Winter couldn’t disappear fast enough.
