Our second edition of Pop Up Shop Mash Up kicks off this week with a collaboration with vintage vendor House of Hangers. We caught up with Christina Baudin, the genius behind House of Hangers (and who La (Found)erie has known forever), to talk fashion, the Cosby Show and her favourite ever find! You can check out her specially curated pieces at the store from February 15th to the 29th.
How did House of Hangers get started?
Straight up, House of Hangers started due to the fact that I was broke. I needed an additional way to pull in income to pay my university studies.
What’s your background in fashion?
My background in fashion started at like 10 years old with my sister. It was a forced thing at the time because we would fight over TV shows; I wanted to watch the Cosby Show but it came on at the same time as Fashion Television. Seeing she was bigger than me, she usually won that battle. But slowly over time, I started to like it more and more.
At 16, I started working retail jobs. I think I’ve worked in almost every retail store that I have ever shopped in. Genevieve and I actually met years ago when we worked together at Urban Outfitters.
What does style mean to you?
For me, style is an emotional and personal form of art that everyone can partake in. It changes with
my feelings and mood. It varies from day to day. It’s definitely one of the ways that I chose to express myself but not the only way.
How do you use vintage clothes in your everyday dressing?
I pretty much wear a bit of it everyday. Like a cardigan, belt and a bag. I love accessories, so whenever I find any vintage bags, belts and shoes…I’m all over it.
Do you remember your first experience vintage shopping?
Yeah, it was when I first moved to Montreal. I would go shopping with my friend Kieu to the Salvation Army to find vintage Adidas jackets that we would rock at the hip hop shows.
Do you have a favourite piece of vintage clothing?
My favourite find is my convertible black suede bag. It changes from a knapsack to a drawstring purse. It’s my favourite everyday bag.
Do you have a fashion/clothing addiction something you can’t get enough of?
I try to keep it under control. My outlet is House of Hangers.
